John Michael Elliott Hinton (July 4, 1923 – February 3, 2000〔(【引用サイトリンク】 url=http://www.ox.ac.uk/gazette/1999-00/weekly/240200/coll.htm#7Ref )〕) was a British philosopher. He was a lecturer at the University of Oxford from 1958 and a fellow of Worcester College, Oxford from 1960.〔 He was Cowling Visiting Professor at Carleton College in 1978-79.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 url=http://apps.carleton.edu/curricular/philosophy/cowling/ )〕 He was previously a lecturer at Victoria University College.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 work=Victoria University of Wellington 1899 ~ 1999 A History )〕 Hinton is widely cited as the first modern proponent of the disjunctive theory of perception.
